CID Police, on Monday, conducted a search operation at the house of a Congress worker in the city on suspicion that Rs 2.27 crore hawala money, recovered from a Kerala-bound private bus and misappropriated by Yelwala Police might have found its way to the house. However, they returned empty handed.

On suspicion that constables S Satish and Abdul Lateef, who have been arrested in the case, might have hid the money in the Congress worker’s house, the Police personnel visited the house at Togaribeedi, around 1.15 pm.

However, sources said, the police got no evidence of the money being stored there.

Clarifying on the visit of the CID Police, the Congress worker’s brothers G Shekar and G Raghavendra said, the arrested constable S Satish had taken a loan of Rs 2 lakh from him about two years ago and had also repaid it.

But, two or three days after the hawala money incident, he had called their brother on phone.

“Based on phone call details, the police had conducted a search at the house. We fully cooperated with the CID police,” they said.
