An 88th-minute equaliser from Sunil prevented debutants Bengaluru FC from walking away with complete honours in their first-ever BDFA Super Division match against South United here at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Monday.

BFC, who unsurprisingly took to the field without a single I-League regular, had taken the lead through forward Karan Sawhney’s fortunate goal in the 43rd minute and were on course for the win before substitute Sunil’s late heroics.

Both sides also had a goal disallowed each in the match which can only be described as a completely drab from the first to the last minute.

South United started the match better and had a few long range sighters at goal as BFC struggled to get a foothold. Midfielder Dinesh had a glorious chance to give South United the lead from close range but for a superb reaction save from goalkeeper Ricardo Cardozo.
More chances went begging before Sawhney’s goal against the run of play.

A hopeless punt upfield from Shelton Wickson completely baffled the South United backline and Sawhney found himself clean through. He wanted to take it around the advancing keeper Karir but his touch was too heavy. Fortunately for him, it nestled into the back of the net much to the delight of the decent crowd who quite did not know who to support.

It looked like that goal would be the difference at full-time but Sunil popped home at the death.

Results: Super Division:
Bengaluru FC: 1 (Karan Sawhney 43rd) drew with South United: 1 (Sunil 88th).

‘A’ Division: DYES: 1 (Rosing 2nd) bt Tilak Memorial: 0.

Tuesday’s matches: Bangalore Kickers vs LRDE (A Division); CIL vs RWF (Super Division).
