In a road-rage case, a 26-year-old property dealer allegedly pulled out a gun and shot at the driver of a minibus in the abdomen, leaving him seriously injured.

The driver was fired at after he attacked the property dealer’s friends with a knife, police said.

Police have arrested three persons. However, the person who allegedly shot at the driver has been absconding.

The incident took place around 9.30 pm on Sunday at Jagatpuri.

Nazim, 32, was driving the minibus from Jahanfirpuri block E to Harsh Vihar with about half-a-dozen passengers when a Santro began honking incessantly.

The car was occupied by the property dealer, Puneet Gupta, and his four friends Harsh, Yogi, Ankit and Pranab.

Nazim allegedly refused to give way to the car for quite some distance which left Gupta and his friends infuriated.

“Gupta was driving the car and he tried to overtake the minibus from the left side.

The two vehicles collided and both the drivers parked their vehicles by the roadside to take on each other,” a police officer associated with the probe told Deccan Herald.

They began an argument over who was responsible even as the passengers of the minivan looked on.

“During the argument, Nizam slapped one of Gupta’s friends and attacked them with a knife. Gupta and two others suffered minor injuries in the attack,” said the officer.

Gupta whipped out a pistol and shot at Nizam, forcing him unconscious on the road. Meanwhile, police were informed and they reached the spot soon.

However, Gupta and Yogi fled from the spot on foot whereas his three other friends tried to ride away in the car. But the Santro occupants were chased and nabbed near Mayur Vihar.

Nizam was rushed to a hospital where his condition is said to be serious.

Police have learnt that the country-made gun used by Gupta was illegal and procured from Munger in Bihar.
