ASC rally to force draw

Last Updated 07 May 2014, 16:03 IST

Jawahar Union were fortunate to escape with a 1-1 draw against ASC & Centre in the BDFA Super Division football league at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Wednesday.

It was Jawahar Union who first took the lead through the nimble Desai in the 11th minute. But ASC, who had a goalbound shot cleared off the line in the dying moments of the match, equalised through Rajeeb Dey in the 59th minute.

This is the third 1-1 draw in three Super Division Games.
While both teams had men forward on the break, it was Jawahar Union who started  brighter and possibly should have opened the scoring in the 8th minute.

Desai sprayed his header wide from close range after a good interchange of play between the side’s primary attackers but he soon got his goal.

After forward Dhruv rode a challenge near the centre circle, he released Desai, who dribbled confidently before picking out the bottom corner with aplomb.

After the break, ASC grew into the game and got a deserved leveller through Rajeeb, who capitalised on a goalkeeping mistake from Andrew Ambat, who was stranded when he came out to claim a corner.

Prakash’s initial shot from inside the box was blocked but it fell kindly for Rajeeb to slam it home from near the penalty spot.   ASC thought they had scored in the 80th minute but for an acrobatic goal-line clearance from Chelston after a header from Prakash.

‘A’ Division result: AGORC: 1 (Mohan Maran 66th) drew with SAI: 1 (Sudarshan 6th). Thursday’s fixtures: ‘A’ Division: Student Union vs BUFC; Super Division: BFC vs ADE.
