Dutee races to gold

 Youngster Dutee Chand timed 11.63 seconds en route to winning gold in the women’s 100m dash on the opening day of the 12th Federation Cup National Junior Athletics Championships here on Friday. 

She also qualified for this year’s World Junior Athletics Championships to be held at Eugene in United States. Tamil Nadu’s Archana Suseendran, the double gold medallist in last year’s South Asian Junior Championships in Ranchi, finished a distant second with a time of 12.14s while Bengal girl Himashree Roy took the bronze, clocking 12.20s. Shot-putter Navtejdeep Singh of Punjab also made the World Junior Athletics Championships grade with a distance of 18.56m to win the gold. 

In some of the other results, Pinki stormed to victory in the women’s 1500 metre with a time of 4:27.26 seconds – almost three seconds ahead of second placed PU Chitra. Results: Men: 1500M: Mohammed Afsal 3:52.44 seconds, 1; Ajay Kumar Saroj 3:52.60, 2; Shashi Bhushan 3:52.65, 3. Shot put: Navtejdeep Singh 18.56 metres, 1; Shakti Solanki (Haryana) 17.93, 2.  Women: 100M: Dutee Chand 11.63 seconds, 1; Archana Suseendran 12.14, 2; Himashree Roy 12.20, 3.  1500M: Pinki 4:27.26, 1; PU Chitra 4:30.19 2; Preeti Lamba 4:35.70, 3. Long jump: Bhumika Thakur 5.94 metres, 1; Bhairabi Roy 5.75, 2.
