A three-year-old boy fell into a sump and died at a building under-construction in Peenya on Saturday.
According to the police, Yashvanth, a resident of Maruthi Layout, Peenya, was playing in front of his grandmother’s house and is said to have gone towards the building after his grandmother went inside the house to drink water at around 4.30 pm.

Police suspect he slipped when he was looking inside the sump, which is almost 10 feet deep and had water up to five feet. Nobody noticed the boy falling into the sump and his body was discovered only when his grandmother came outside the house minutes later and started looking for him. She searched for him in the entire neighbourhood and proceeded towards the under-construction building where she found Yashvanth’s body inside the sump, police said.

Yashvanth was the second son of Mallikarjun, a private security guard and Rajeshwari, a worker at a garment factory. The couple from Andhra Pradesh had come to the City a few years ago and have another son Jasvanth, police said.

Yashvanth’s parents had dropped him at his grandmother’s home and left for work on the day of the incident.

A case has been registered against the owner of the building, Anju Anand.
