'N-reprocessing deal soon'

Last Updated 10 December 2009, 19:43 IST

US India Business Council Director Ted Jones told newsmen here on Thursday that the reprocessing agreement between the two countries should take place anytime within the next two weeks.

Jones is in India, leading the 50-member US Commercial Nuclear Delegation which earlier has had confabulations with the Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL).

Jones further said another accord with regard to an agreement between the two countries on non-proliferation issues are also in advanced stage and once it was initiated the US government could start the process of licensing American companies to do business with their counterparts in India on nuclear components, both for Indian consumption and third country exports.

However, Jones was not forthcoming to a definite time frame for such an agreement to be signed.

He merely stated that with US President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh agreeing to hasten the process of operationalising the accord, it should happen soon.
