In what could go a long way in conserving monuments and heritage sites in Karnataka, Unesco has included six historic places in the State in the tentative list of world heritage sites.

Announcing this at a programme organised to lay the foundation stone for various development works in the city on Thursday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that monuments of Deccan sultanate in Gulbarga, Bijapur and Bidar, monuments in Srirangapatna and Hoysala temples in Belur and Halebid were up for the tag.

A proposal in this regard had been submitted by the Department of Archaeology, Heritage and Museum. Siddaramaiah, who was happy to acknowledge the feat of the State, said Hampi, Pattadkal and Western Ghats were already on the list.
