A 14-year-old girl, who was alleged to have been sexually harassed by her stepfather and tortured by mother, was rescued in the city on Thursday.

The incident came to light when the girl approached a law student’s house seeking job, as she was allegedly thrown out of her house by the mother after she resisted a rape attempt by the stepfather. Mythreyee, student of  Vidyodaya Law College, rescued the girl who came to her house seeking job.

Mythreyee said when the girl came to her house, she noticed injury marks on her body.
When she enquired, the girl said her stepfather raped her and when she resisted, her mother tortured her. Mythreyee gave the girl shelter at her house and alerted a human rights organisation on Thursday morning, which handed over the girl to the district child protection cell.

In the complaint filed with the Tilak Park police, the officials said the family from Tamil Nadu came to the city five years ago and resided in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar.

The victim’s mother parted ways with husband Shivakumar who is employed at a incense stick factory in Bangalore, after she fell in love with Prakash, the suspect who was working in a shop on Kyatsandra Ring Road. The mother, along with her two daughters, moved to Tumkur with Prakash.

The police said Lata used to send her daughter to Prakash who raped the girl. Besides, the couple allegedly forced the girls to watch obscene videos. “They made my younger sister to drink alcohol and smoke. Now, she is an addict and acts as per their wishes,” the victim told the police.
