Housewife sets herself ablaze, dies

A homemaker committed suicide by setting herself ablaze in her house in Valepura under the Whitefield police limits on Thursday night.

According to the police, Yashoda, 30, was residing with her husband Prakash in Valepura. They were married for nine years and were childless. Prakash was working as a bill collector in a Gram Panchayat office. 

On Thursday night, Yashoda went to the kitchen and poured kerosene and set herself ablaze.

Hearing her screams, Prakash, who was sleeping in the room, ran to her rescue, but he too caught fire.

Hearing the couple scream, neighbours rushed to their house and noticed smoke. They broke open the door latched from inside and rushed the couple to a private hospital.

The doctors asked them to shift them to Victoria Hospital since they were in a serious condition, the police said.

The doctors at Victoria hospital declared Yashoda brought dead. Prakash is said to be in a critical condition.

It is suspected that Yahsoda took the extreme step as she was depressed over not having children, but the exact reason is yet to be ascertained.

A case has been registered.

Man alighting from bus killed. An 80-year-old man who alighted from a moving bus, was crushed under the wheels of the same vehicle  in Chamarajapet on Friday.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Siddappa, a resident of Gururaj Layout near Vidyapeeta Circle.

Death of a relative

He was returning from Nelamangala, where he had gone on a personal errand, but after receiving the news of the death of his relative, Siddappa returned to the City.

He boarded a bus at Majestic for Srinagar. While the bus was taking a turn near Uma theatre, he tried to alight from the bus, but slipped and came under the rear wheel of the bus.

The passengers alerted the driver who stopped the bus. However, Siddappa had succumbed to his injuries on the spot. The police rushed to the spot, arrested the driver and  seized the bus.

A case has been registered . The police are questioning the driver as to why the door of the bus was not closed.
