Confusion over postgraduate medical counselling at KEA

The premises of the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) witnessed commotion on Wednesday as confusion prevailed among students with regard to the third round of counselling for postgraduate (PG) medical seats under the government quota. 

A number of students had gathered for the second round of counselling that ended on Wednesday. However, there was no clarity with regard to the schedule of the third round of counselling.

The second round of counselling began at around 1 pm and not in the morning as scheduled, leading to anxiety among the students.  

An official from KEA said, “There was no official notification with details of the third round. However, according to an official circular released later on Wednesday by the Medical Education Department, the third round of counseling will be conducted after June 19,” said the official.  

Comedk seats after final round

A total of 79 seats were left after the second and final round of counselling for PG medical seats under Comedk that ended on Wednesday. A total of 203 seats were on offer during the round and 450 candidates participated in the counselling. The remaining seats have been returned to the respective colleges as per the consensual agreement. 

Out of the total 387 PG seats that were available during the first round of counselling on April 22 and 23, as many as 313 seats were taken. As many as 647 candidates participated in the first round. Before the commencement of second round, 107 seats were surrendered to Comedk, while 22 new seats were added (as sanctioned by the Medical Council of India to member colleges). In all, 45 seats have been taken by the candidates coming from Hyderabad-Karnataka region.
