Farhat, Butt keep Pak afloat on day three

Last Updated 13 December 2009, 19:04 IST

Trailing by 248 runs after the Kiwis had amassed 471 all out from 139 overs in the first innings, the visitors had their task cut out on the third day at McLean Park. First innings centurian Farhat and Butt put up a determined show in guiding Pakistan to 128 for no loss from 56 overs at stumps in their second essay.

Earlier, New Zeland’s overnight pair of captain Daniel Vettori and Daryl Tuffey produced some scintillating batting as Kiwis extended their stronghold on the match. While Vettori added 34 runs to his overnight 100 scored on Saturday, pace bowler Tuffey notched up the first half century of his career.

Looking good for a century, Tuffey eventually ran out of partners as he was stranded on 80.
He faced 123 balls, striking eight fours and two sixes to frustrate Pakistan.
The series is locked 1-1.
