Alert guard foils bid to loot ATM

A security guard of an ATM centre at Tigalarapalya caught a man who was attempting to break open the ATM kiosk under the influence of alcohol in the early hours of Friday. The suspect was identified as Chandra, 30, a resident of Kanteerava Nagar in Nandini Layout. 

According to the police, Chandra barged inside the HDFC ATM centre around 2.45 am and started to break open the kiosk with a cutting machine. Lokesh, the guard, who was asleep inside the battery room, woke up after he heard the noise and came out of the room. Lokesh bumped on Chandra and caught him. He informed Tavarakere police, who rushed to the spot and arrested Chandra, added the police.

The suspect hails from Singavanahalli village in Kunigal taluk and is employed at a garment factory in Bengaluru. He is staying with his wife and children at Kanteerava Nagar. He had taken loans, running into Rs 12 lakh, from various sources, added the police.

He told the police that he decided to break open the ATM, loot the money and repay the loans, said the police. Chandra was remanded in judicial custody.
