Three workers injured in industrial accident

Spillage of hot oil from overheated transformer causes burns

Nayaz (20) suffered 63 percent burns whereas two of his colleagues Sridhar (34) and Srinivas (44) received 30 percent and 9 percent burns respectively when the incident occurred around 11 am.

The workers were employed by Volta Maps, a sub-contractor for refilling the transformer put up in an open space at the Bagmane Tech Park. The transformer was seething under immense heat when its tank was opened.

The workers started the process of replacing the oil by emptying on one side and replacing it with new oil.  The boiling oil spilled all over in a splash causing them burn injuries.  

While Nayaz was taken to Victoria Hospital, Sridhar and Srinivas have been admitted to St John's Hospital. Another worker Jayadeva escaped unhurt.  The Byappanahalli police have ruled out sabotage and have maintained that it was an accident. A case has been registered following a complaint by Kadam, a security guard deployed at the building.

Four held for murder

The murder of V Ranganuvelu, a cab driver who aspired to try his luck in the forthcoming BBMP elections, appears to have been solved with the
arrest of four persons in this regard in K P Agrahara here on Sunday. According to the police, Velu alias Jaivelu (32) of Jaalimohalla and his accomplices Mohan alias Kankutti (24) of Cottopet, N Balaji (22), hailing from Tamil Nadu's Vellore district and resident of Jaalimohalla, and Elambu Ramesh (32) of Magadi Road, had waylaid Ranganuvelu on Netajinagar 9th main road on Saturday and murdered him over an old duel.

Two iron rods and a knife, reportedly used in the offence, have been recovered from them, they added.

Three arrested

The Cottonpet police have arrested three persons who had reportedly murdered a man over a petty issue on Mysore Road, last Wednesday.  Police said Venkatesh alias Venti and Kanniyappan, both 26 and residents of Cheluvadipalya, and Appu alias Appukumar (26) of Peerboundary, Cottonpet Main Road, had fatally assaulted 40-year-old Mahadeva, a native of Malavalli, Mandya district, with knives.

The deceased had picked up a scuffle with the accused over the supply of grocery to a military hotel on Mysore Road on December 6. He had also beaten up Venkatesh.

An enraged Venkatesh decided to teach Mahadeva a lesson and assaulted him with the help of the other accused. Mahadeva was rushed to the hospital, but he did not respond to the treatment and died, police added.

Married woman ends life

A 28 year-old married woman who had acute stomach pain, committed suicide by hanging herself at her house in Prakashnagar here on Sunday evening.  Police said that Sripavani had left behind a suicide note blaming no one for her act.

It is said that she was disturbed over her illness and hence ended her life. She had entered the wedlock two years ago. Rajajinagar police have registered a case.

Young girl commits suicide

An 18 year-old girl took the extreme step of committing suicide by hanging herself at her house in HAL police station limits here on Sunday. Roopa, an orphan and resident of Panatur, was employed as a house keeper. The reason for the offence could not be immediately known, the police said. A case has been registered.
