Monsoon picks up pace across State

Monsoon has intensified in the coastal areas of Uttara Kannada with rain pounding the major towns in the district throughout the day on Wednesday.

It rained heavily in Karwar, Kumta, Ankola, Honnavar, Haliyal, Joida, Yellapur and Siddapur disrupting normal life. However, Bhatkal received little rain. The district has recorded an average rainfall of 19.5 mm in the past 24 hours. Karwar has received 71.2 mm of rain, Siddapur 46 mm while Ankola has received 17.8 mm of rain in June.

Warning issued

The Indian Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain and gusty winds in the coastal areas in the next 24 hours. Fishermen have been cautioned against venturing into the sea.

In Mangalore

Heavy rain that lashed Mangalore on Tuesday receded on Wednesday. However, the sky remained cloudy throughout the day and heavy rains lashed in the evening.

  Farmers have started making preparations for the ploughing paddy fields in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada. In the last 24 hours, Kadaba received highest of 39.4 mm rainfall followed by Bantwal—34.2 mm, Mangalore—26 mm, Moodbidri—24.4 mm and Puttur 22.7 mm. Udupi district received an average of 47.4 mm rainfall for the last 24 hours.  

Intermittent in Kodagu

Intermittent rains continued to lash Shanivarasanthe in Kodagu district. Monsoon intensified in Mudigere taluk of Chikmagalur. The region received two to four inches of rainfall in the last 24 hours. The water-level in Hemavathi, Japavathi and small streams have increased. 

Cloudy in Shimoga

Intermittent rains continued to lash various parts of the district on Wednesday. In the last 24 hours, Sorab taluk received the highest rainfall of 24 mm, followed by Thirthahalli-11.2mm, Hosanagar-10 mm, Shikaripur-4 mm, Sagar-3.4 mm, Bhadravathi-2.4 mm and Shimoga-2.4 mm. Most parts of the district witnessed cloudy weather throughout the day.

Rains in Dharwad
 Intermittent monsoon rains lashed Hubli-Dharwad and Belgaum in north Karnataka heralding the arrival of the monsoon in the region. In Dharwad, intermittent rains lashed the city since Tuesday night, which continued on Wednesday too. Hubli city received showers in the afternoon and evening. With dark clouds hovering over, the twin cities are expected to receive more rains from Thursday onwards. In Belgaum, occasional light showers lashed most of the City bringing respite from the scorching summer heat.

In Davangere, after a lull

Rain returned to Davangere after a lull. Normal life was affected in the district following heavy rains.
