Palike gets cracking on dumping of garbage

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has started cracking down on hoteliers for dumping garbage at public places. It has also launched a drive against polythene bags below 40 microns.

In the last fortnight, the officials have penalised many people for throwing filth on the road and footpaths. On June 10, the Palike imposed a penalty of Rs 5,000 and Rs 1,000 on Smart Retail Private Limited and Vaman Gupta at Padmanabha Nagar. On June 16, the Palike imposed a penalty of Rs 5,000 on V Chandrashekhar for throwing mixed waste and debris on footpath on Ittamadu Main Road.

On June 17, polythene bags were seized from a shop and a warehouse belonging to Dimple Bhandari and Sripad and a penalty of Rs 15,000 was imposed on them.

Again on Thursday, the Palike officials imposed a penalty of Rs 5,000 on Devayani Industrial Textiles and Garment at Gowdanapalya for dumping debris and mixed waste on the footpath. The officials said the drive would be intensified across the City and people found throwing waste on the road and footpath would be penalised heavily.
