Seeking return of jewels, customers protest

Tension prevailed in Commercial Street on Wednesday when some customers protested outside the Davanam Jewellers asking its management to hand over the jewellery they had reportedly deposited with the showroom.

Claiming that they had invested gold jewellery with the showroom under a gold savings scheme a year ago, about 15 people asked the manager to return the valuables but the latter denied having taken the ornaments and called his bosses. Meantime, the people sat down in front of the shop and began protesting.

The police said they pacified the protestors and summoned them to the police station along with the showroom management. The protestors alleged that the showroom had refused to return the jewellery but the showroom authorities denied having taken any ornaments.

“We have registered a case and asked both the parties to produce the documents. The matter will be investigated and necessary action will be taken once the details are gathered,” P S Harsha, DCP (East), said.
