Students protest over university row, detained

Last Updated 26 June 2014, 08:52 IST

Amidst the standoff over Delhi University's four-year undergraduate course, some 30 students were detained here Thursday while trying to march towards Rashtrapati Bhawan.

The students gathered at Central Secretariat and demanded to meet President Pranab Mukherjee to seek his intervention in the controversy that has halted this year's admission process in Delhi University.

The students were detained and taken to the Parliament Street police station where they clashed with police.

A few members of another student group, Krantikari Yuva Sangathan, also protested outside the residence of Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh, demanding his "apology" for introducing the four-year course last year.

The University Grants Commission has ordered Delhi University to scrap the four-year programme and return to the earlier three-year undergraduate course.
