6 post offices migrate to core banking facility in Mangalore

Six post offices in Mangalore division have migrated to core banking facility. The core banking facility will  allow people to carry out transactions from any of the networked post offices across the State once the process of core banking facility is complete, said  Mangalore division senior superintendent of post offices K A Devaraj.

Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of quarterly Dak Adalat here on Friday, he said that the Mangalore division has two head post offices namely Pandeshwar and Kulashekar and 51 sub post offices.

Mangalore head post office at Pandeshwar, Bejai sub post office, Srinivas Nagar at NITK campus, post office at district court complex, Bajpe airport post office and post office at fisheries college have been migrated to core banking solution. All the sub post offices and branch offices will migrate to core banking solution in a phased manner. The CBS will function with the help of Pinnacle Software. Internet banking, mobile banking and other related services will also be enabled followed by the CBS system launch gradually, he added.

Automated teller machines (ATMs) will no longer be restricted to banks in Dakshina Kannada. The Mangalore postal division’s first ATM for postal savings account holders will be set up at head office in Pandeshwar shortly. The structure for the ATM has already been set up. In the second phase, Kulshekar head post office will also get an ATM facility.

Shopping experience

It may not just be to send letters, or couriers that one enters the Post Office from now. The post office at Hampankatta is transforming itself into a shopping experience, where stationary, books, greeting cards, coffee mugs and jute files can be purchased.
Now, the authorities have added two more products—Madikeri coffee powder and Madikeri home made chocolates to the list. There is a good response for the books from various publications and jute files. The sale of coffee powder and chocolates were started just a week ago, he added.

Rural postal insurance

Under Sampoorna Grama Jeevan Bheema of rural postal life insurance, the Mangalore division has selected 18 branch post offices. Of which, all the families in four branch offices namely Nadugodu, Manganthi, Kakva and Panjinadka have been covered under rural postal life insurance. The remaining post offices will be taken up this year, he added.

The Senior superintendent of post offices said that online services under Sakala would be delivered through post offices. Training is being imparted to the staff at Hampankatta post office and Mangalore head post office. The Mangalore postal division has also sent a proposal to the Mangalore University to start e-payment of fees through post offices. 

Complaints

Ibrahim from Bunder in his complaint sent to the quarterly Dak Adalat had said that the post box at State Bank region does not have postal clearing timings on it. To which, the Senior superintendent of post offices said that the process of painting all the post boxes have been initiated and will be completed shortly.

Sureshchandra from Bolar suggested the post offices to introduce the system to inform the customers on the maturity of monthly income schemes.
