When life took a new turn

Last Updated 30 June 2014, 13:03 IST

It was yet another new beginning in Jyoti Nivas College (JNC) as the first-year degree students stepped into college with new dreams and aspirations.

The college has a long tradition of felicitating the goals of students and making the college their second home while doing so. The first-year degree orientation was organised for the same reason.  It was an opportunity for the students to get to know their college, where they would be spending the next three years of their life.

The programme was a blend of information about the college and cultural activities. The programme started with an introductory speech, which introduced the new members of the JNC family to the college.  Students were briefed about academics, a varied range of cultural activities and clubs in the college, sports and credit courses. There was also an inspiring speech by principal Dr Sr Elizabeth.

“There is a light that shines beyond all things on Earth, beyond the highest of the very highest heavens. This is the light that shines in each and every one of you. Jyoti Nivas kindles that light in you,” she said.

There was a wide range of cultural activities and the audience loved the play ‘Coffee with Ranjani’.  It was a show dedicated to the students to show them that they had made the right choice by joining JNC by comparing it with imaginary colleges. This was followed by a classical dance and a performance by the choir.

The highlight was the dance performed by a pair of physically-impaired twins, who performed a beautiful dance in wonderful synchronicity merely by counting the beats as they couldn’t hear the music.

This enchanted the  audience. Nisha Nayak, a first-year student, said, “I look forward to a good three years with friends that will stay with me forever. I look forward to bonding with our seniors and learning interesting things as part of the academics as well as other extracurricular activities.”
