A dimly-lit ramshackle theatre, flickering candles throwing ghostly shadows enhancing the feeling of being in a haunted place.

As you enter the hall, a ghost holding a lantern in one hand escorts you to the main seating area of the 42-year old theatre, your footfall making a distinct sound on the wooden floor.

Amidst the play of flitting shadows and wraithlike forms, artistes dressed up as ghosts are geared to ensure that you experience the most chilling time of your life!

Ghost Stories, over the weekend, was a show that emerged as the brainchild of artistes while they were rehearsing for another drama at the basement of a school and the lights suddenly went off plunging everything in darkness.

Sharing their stories of the ‘other world’ and brush with the supernatural, Humour Me presented the third instalment of their “truly horrifying” live experimental show, the Ghost Stories in the capital, making you chillingly aware of your sixth sense.

The three-man show is set on a story line with each character narrating his story for 15 minutes.

On stage, storyteller Clifford Alfonso narrates his first hand exprience of the supernatural to which even he can’t find a logic.

Alfonso, a founding member of Humour Me, is an actor and a vocalist who made his name in the industry by taking centerstage in a dozen productions since 2005.

The artiste possesses excellent delivery skills, an ever-booming energy and a commanding stage presence which distinguishes him as one of the most experience performers of his generation.

Andrew Hoffland the other artiste too narrates real life, inexplicable incidents that he personally encountered as a school teacher while living in Dubai, Delhi and in the hills of Darjeeling and Nagaland. His jaw dropping experiences are one of its kind, leaving you wondering what if it were to happen to you!

Apart from the storytellers, psychological illusionist and mind reader Karan Singh ropes the audience into experiments of illusion and hypnosis, leaving them questioning the boundaries of their own perception and imagination.

Singh is truly a student of magic and he describes his skills as, “Magic, suggestion, psychology, misdirection and showmanship mixed with a bit of hypnosis to give the illusion of reading minds.”

With absolutely no ghosts around, throughout, yet one can’t escape the eerie feeling of ghostly presence seated in the chair beside you. The firsthand account of Humour Me’s tales of the supernatural seem to awaken one’s
psychic gifts.

The experience is so realistic that it leaves one in cold sweat, heart beating erratically and a rush of adrenaline and horror. So if you have a weak heart, think twice before you go!

As the narrator bids adieu, there is more to shock, scare and surprise the audience. You can never tell what may unfold at the end.
