The Navy has "discharged" a senior officer after he was indicted by a Board of Inquiry for having an illicit affair with his fellow officer's wife.

The Commodore-rank officer (equivalent to a Brigadier in the Army) was asked to leave the service after he was indicted by a Board of Inquiry headed by a Rear Admiral rank officer for having illicit affair with the wife of an officer of the same rank, sources said here.

The husband of the woman filed a complaint with the senior authorities after divorcing his wife alleging that his marital life was ruined by the particular officer and action be taken against him for his deeds, they said.

The Navy Headquarters took a considered view on the BoI report and decided to discharge the officer from Service a few weeks ago, sources said.

In the armed forces, it is an offence to have an affair with the wife of any fellow officer or jawan.

The Navy has a zero tolerance policy towards such cases and no indiscipline of such nature would be allowed, Navy officials said here.

The Navy has been taking strict against such incidents and investigations are launched if any complaint is received or any such matter is brought to the notice of the authorities concerned, they said.
