Stone-pelting in Vadodara

Last Updated 19 July 2014, 18:17 IST

Two groups clashed and pelted stones at each other here after an argument late Friday night, prompting police to lob tear gas shells to restore order, a senior official said on Saturday.

The violence was reported from Junigadhi and Chhipwad, the communally sensitive areas, where three companies of Special Reserve Police Force (about 300 personnel) were deployed to maintain peace and prevent any flare-up, Police Commissioner Satish Sharma said.

No injuries were reported, he said. “The stone-throwing incident took place after a dispute between two groups involving an auto-rickshaw driver,” Sharma told PTI.

“Police fired 16 tear gas shells to disperse the stone -pelting crowds and situation was brought under control immediately,” the IPS officer said.

The situation is under control, he said, adding four cases were registered in connection with the incident.
