Remembering 'servant of God'

According to a press release, Monsignor Raymond F C Mascarenhas is the founder of Bethany Sisters in 1921. He was also the founder and first parish priest of Bendur Parish (1914-1931).

His process into sainthood started in last June.

He was born on January 23, 1875. On March 4, 1900, he was ordained a priest.  He was the forerunner of translating the New Testament into Konkani in 1950.

Monsignor Raymond F C Mascarenhas’s translation of Latin and English prayers/hymns into Konkani enabled better understanding.

The congregation of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany popularly known as Bethany Sisters has now 1,250 nuns and 150 convents in India.

He passed away on December 23, 1960. The cottage which Mascarenhas lived and died is named Founders Cottage. The celebration will be inaugurated by Bishop Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza with a solemn concelebrated Eucharist.
