A 20-year-old man has been arrested for carjacking in police uniform in west Delhi. The victim was stabbed before being dumped in west Delhi’s Mianwali Nagar, police said on Thursday.

Accused Ashwani Kumar is a resident of Kunwar Singh Nagar in Nangloi. Police said a probe was initiated after three persons, of whom two were in police uniform, intercepted an Alto near Janakpuri District Centre.

“The victim was robbed of his jewellery and mobile phone. The robbed mobile phone has been recovered from Ashwani’s possession,” said Ashok Chand, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime).

Victim Naresh was returning home in west Delhi’s Khayala from Gurgaon when the incident took place on August 4. When he reached near Janakpuri District Centre, the accused intercepted his car and entered it on the pretext of asking for his driving licence and documents of the car.

They took the car to Mianwali Nagar and robbed Naresh of his gold chain, two rings, wristwatch and mobile phone. He was later taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital and treated for stab wounds.

On this, a case of robbery was registered with Mianwali Nagar police station.
On Wednesday, Ashwani was apprehended in Nangloi on the basis of a tip-off.

On interrogation, he disclosed that Rakesh and Pramod Kumar, also residents of Kunwar Singh Nagar, were his accomplices.

“Local police have been informed about the arrest and efforts are being made to apprehend his accomplices,” Chand added.
