Last Updated 15 August 2014, 17:34 IST

Police here arrested a young man on the charge of selling T-shirts with the Pakistani flag printed on them early on Friday morning. They also said they seized five such T-shirts from him.

The suspect has been identified as Faraz Shaikh, a native of Uttar Pradesh and resident of Tenhinkeri Galli here. Police said that Shaikh had been selling the said T-shirts on the eve of Independence Day “to promote enmity” among the people.

Police got the tip-off after some people bought the T-shirts from Shaikh. They later arrested him under Sections 153 (B) (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration) and 505 (2) (statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes) of the IPC. He was later produced before a court which remanded him in judicial custody. The Market police are investigating the case.

Meanwhile, a controversial flag was found hoisted atop a lodge on Station Road here late night on Thursday. The building management later removed it. There were rumours that it was a Pakistani flag.
