A 63-year-old Nigerian man was rushed to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases (RGICD) shortly after he arrived at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on Wednesday evening over fears that he might have contracted the Ebola virus as there was a slight increase in his body temperature.

The Nigerian had arrived here from the UAE to undergo treatment for his renal problem at a local hospital.

“He recorded temperature of around 100 degrees Fahrenheit. He did not have any close contacts with the infected. He was discharged by 11 am on Thursday after thorough observation as he did not show any symptoms,” said Dr Shashidhar Buggi, director, RGICD.

Dr Venkatesh, deputy director, Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, said that they were in constant touch with the patient and would keep a track on the case for 21 days as a precautionary measure.

On Thursday, five out of the 145 passengers, who arrived at various airports in India in the last 24 hours from Ebola-hit countries, were found to have contact history with positive cases of the disease. Fourteen passengers had landed at the KIA.
