Wi-fi facility in four trains soon

It will be ready in the next six months

The South Western Railway (SWR), in its efforts to provide more facilities for people, will introduce Wi-Fi facility in four trains, on a pilot basis.

Addressing a press meet here on Friday, SWR Divisional Railway Manager Rajkumar Lal said that they were in talks with Airtel and Vodafone to provide the facility.“The facility will be introduced in Chamundi, Tipu, Bangalore-Dharwad and Bangalore-Shimoga inter-city express trains. Passengers can avail the facility by paying for the service in advance,” he said.

In order to make it easier for passengers to book tickets, he said that Yaatri Ticket Suvidha Kendra would come up in several places. 

The Kendras will be launched under PPP model and tender for would be invited shortly, he said. He said that a computerised ticket booking center would soon come up at NR Mohalla post office.

Base kitchen

Lal said that a base kitchen would come up in Mysore, in order to ensure quality food for travellers. 

“Food items will be prepared at the base. Hotboxes will also be used, while selling the food items, so as to ensure that the food meets quality standards,” he said. The facility will come up within six months. In the preliminary stages, trains travelling to farther destinations will be provided the facility, he said.

He said that a tender will be invited to construct a subway, connecting all platforms at Mysore railway station. Paintings depicted the art and culture of Karnataka will adore the walls of the subway, he added.
