NDFB kills 'informant' in front of her parents

The National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) has released a horrifying video of its militants gunning down a 16-year-old girl in the presence of her parents around two days ago in Assam’s Chirang district.

In the footage, an NDFB militant said that the teenager was killed for being a police informant and that the act was meant to be a warning to other people.

Local television channels on Friday night aired the chilling video clip, which showed the 16-year-old girl lying in a pool of blood in the presence of her parents, who live in the Dwimugri village under the Runikhata police station in the district.

Government spokesman and Industries Minister Pradyut said a probe would be ordered into the NDFB (Songbijit) killing the girl. Pradyut added that the veracity of reports that the parents were afraid to retrieve the girl’s body, which was lying in a field in the village for the past two days, would be checked.

With villagers alleging that the police reached the scene only after the video was telecast on news channels, he asserted that action would be taken against any policeman found guilty of dereliction of duty.

The girl is suspected to have been killed a day after August 20, when five NDFB (S) militants were gunned down. In the video, the NDFB (S) militant claimed that his group members were not killed by the Army, but by the rival NDFB (Daimary).

A police spokesman said that the body had been retrieved and sent for postmortem. Quoting eyewitnesses, he said a group of heavily armed militants had dragged the girl out of her house and shot her  in the presence of villagers and her parents.
