BJP president Amit Shah on Monday launched a scathing attack on Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his statement that people in border areas have seen worst days since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Achche din’ slogan, asking the chief minister to focus on his work for the remainder of his term in office.

“I have read the statement of Mr Abdullah in which he has placed blame that shelling has started with BJP’s ‘achche din.’ I want to inform Mr Abdullah, that BJP government and the Indian defence forces will definitely retaliate to shelling,” Shah said while addressing a public rally in the R S Pura sector of Jammu, which has seen spurt in ceasefire violations by Pakistan in the past three weeks.

“But, it was your (Omar’s) responsibility that you should have visited the affected people, who have migrated to interiors due to shelling and taken shelter in schools,” he said as the public present in the rally raised shame slogans against the Chief Minister. The BJP president continued his attack on Omar saying, Have any of your (representatives or you visited the affected people? Do you think they aren’t citizens of Jammu and Kashmir?

“You have an obligation towards these people who have come from borders. Instead of thinking about national development, you better concentrate on your work in the remaining days of your power,” Shah said.

Earlier, Omar had said that the Modi-led BJP government at the Centre had the obligation to resolve the Kashmir issue “as it has promised the people of this country 'achche din'.”
