The other upset of the day was eighth seed Divij Sharan’s defeat at the hand of statemate Vivek Shokeen of Bengal 4-6, 3-6.
In the first set, Gide managed to retain his serve in the first game and lost it thrice after that. However, he broke Manuja in the sixth. In the second set Gide was broken in the first and seventh games.
In the Shokeen-Sharan match, the first set went with serves till the tenth game before former made the break.
