A four-year-old girl was molested on a government school campus in outer Delhi’s Begumpur a few days ago.

The girl, in her statement to police and an NGO, pointed out to a minor working on the campus. Police, however, said the accused has produced evidence that he was not present in school on the day when the victim was assaulted.

Police said they had questioned the minor accused soon after the matter was brought to light. But after he produced evidence in his favour, they are now examining some others at the school in Pooth Kalan village to probe who could have abused the girl.

Since medical reports confirmed that the kindergarten girl was assaulted, the involvement of someone inside the school is suspected, a senior police officer told Deccan Herald.

The victim first complained of stomach pain to her mother on August 26, the same day when the incident took place, according to the girl.

“Her mother gave her some medicines for the pain, but did not take her to hospital for the first two days,” the officer said.

When the girl continued crying in pain over this period, her mother took her to a government hospital on Thursday.

Doctors at the hospital told the mother that someone had violated her a few days ago.
“The girl was asked about any such incident and she mentioned about a school worker of taking her to a secluded place and molesting her,” the officer said.

Police at Begumpur station were approached. After a case was registered, the girl pointed out to a 16-year-old working at the school as the culprit.

“But the boy claims he was on a trip to Vaishno Devi temple in Jammu on the day of the incident, and that he returned only the next day. He produced the train ticket, which suggests he was actually out of town,” the officer said.

The officer said the girl could be traumatised because of the incident, due to which she was not able to remember who the assaulter was.

A case of rape and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act has been registered and a probe initiated to catch the culprit, police said.
