Nithyananda undergoes potency test

Last Updated 08 September 2014, 12:38 IST

Controversial self-proclaimed godman Nithyananda underwent a potency test today in a 2010 rape case, days after the Supreme Court dismissed his plea challenging the Karnataka High Court's order directing him to face the test.

Nithyananda was subjected to the potency test at the Institute of Nephro-Urology located in the campus of the government-run Victoria Hospital, here.

"His (Nityananda) potency test has been conducted. It was conducted by a team of six doctors," Dr T Durganna, Medical Superintendent of Victoria Hospital, told PTI. "The report will be submitted to concerned (CID officials) in one or two days."

Refusing to give any relief, an apex court, bench headed by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, had on September 3 dismissed Nithyananda's plea challenging the High Court's order directing him to take the medical test and rapped him and the state police for the "atrocious delay" in the case related to a sexual abuse complaint against him by an NRI woman.

She had alleged she was repeatedly raped during her five—year stay at his ashram in Bidadi, near here.

In its July 16 order, the High Court had upheld the 2012 order of the CJM who had allowed the plea of the Criminal Investigation Department to subject Nithyananda to medical test to find out whether or not he was capable of having sexual intercourse and to collect his blood and voice samples.
