A tableau to invite people from across the State for Dasara, spreading the fragrance of the festival through the State-owned Mysore Sandal Soap and chair-back panels with Dasara canvas in the backdrop are among the novel initiatives planned to give wide publicity for the festival scheduled to be held from September 25 to October 4.

Informing this to media here on Thursday, president of Dasara Publicity and Kite Contest Sub-Committee K Deepak said, “A tableau with embossed structures of demon Mahishasura, durbar hall and music concerts, along with attractive pictures of tourist spots in and around Mysore, topped by the face of elephant carved atop the cabin of the vehicle, will be flagged off on September 12. The tableau, accompanied by artistes, will tour across the State and station only at district headquarters to invite people for Dasara”.

Box covers of the State-owned brand Mysore Sandal Soap is already printed with Dasara slogans and is being dispatched to other states. Other manufacturers, especially private companies, are being roped in to publicise Dasara through their products.

Chair-back panels with Dasara canvas in the backdrop are also being planned as another means to extend Dasara invitation. It requires a minimum of Rs 15,000 per panel and plans are on the anvil to build at least 50 panels, with the help of sponsors.

Other initiatives include publicising the festival at major transit centres like airports, railway stations and bus stands, besides print, electronic media and radio channels. It has been decided to decorate the rear portion of 2,000 KSRTC buses – including BMTC and inter-State vehicles – with vinyl posters on the festival, besides stickers of two different sizes. Hoardings will be put up at antage locations across the State, including hoardings belonging to the Department of Information and Public Relations.
