22-yr-old girl's decomposed body found in Buddha Jayanti Park

The decomposed body of a 22-year-old girl who had been reported missing since Wednesday was recovered from Buddha Jayanti Park in Chanakyapuri on Saturday.
Police said that autopsy report has revealed that the girl was stabbed once and the death was on account of that injury.

Rape has been ruled out in the case.

Unidentified for hours after being found, the girl’s parents were traced to central Delhi’s Anand Parbat after police scanned missing reports filed over the past few days.
“The girl’s parents said she left home for some work on Wednesday and had not returned after that. They searched for her before filing a missing report with police,” SBS Tyagi, Additional Commissioner of Police (New Delhi district) told Deccan Herald.

The parents have not pointed their finger of suspicion toward anyone, Tyagi said.
They are in shock and more details about the girl will be known only after they are in a condition to speak.

While the girl’s father is a grade four employee at a government hospital in Delhi, her mother works at another hospital.

The forested area in Buddha Jayanti Park from where the body was discovered lies close to some slums.

No patrolling
Since women from the slums frequent the place for relieving themselves, policemen generally do not patrol in that particular area. The park located on the backyard of the Presidential Palace had earlier been in the news over a decade ago when four members of the elite President's bodyguards had gang-raped a 17-year-old Delhi University girl in October 2003.

Ever since then, patrolling in the park had been intensified. On Saturday, some policemen passing through the area happened to sense foul smell emanating from the bushes.
One of them checked to find the decomposed body of a girl in the bushes.

The body was sent to Lady Hardinge Hospital and kept in the mortuary and was sent for post-mortem on Sunday after her parents identified her, said Tyagi.

The girl’s legs had been infested with worms, forcing police to believe that the death must have taken place on the very day she had gone missing. Police said her parents would be able to give vital clues on whether she had enmity with anyone or was in a relationship.

Her friends are also being questioned to ascertain with whom she was around at the time of her disappearance.

The girl had been staying at home with her parents after completing class 12 a few years ago.
