It has been a decade since works on construction of Dr B R Ambedkar District Stadium was launched, but, it still does not have any basic facilities. Even though crores has been spent on the project, the ground neither has a pavilion nor an athletic track.

However, indications are that, the stadium will witness some improvement, with Rs 5.5 crore sanctioned for laying of a synthetic athletic track.

MP R Dhruvanarayan, speaking at a press meet recently, admitted that works of the stadium was not satisfactory and blamed the persons in-charge of the project for the sorry state of affairs. “All remaining works will be completed. Using the funds sanctioned by the Central government, a 400-metre synthetic track will be laid,” he said.

He said, the works of the stadium are expected to be completed within 12 months. Proposals have been made for construction of indoor stadiums at Kollegal and H D Kote, he said.

He said, Rs 15 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of Kendriya Vidyalaya, near Masagapura village, in Chamarajanagar taluk. The school will come up on an area of 7.5 acres, and the works are expected to commence this year itself, he said.

Primitive tribe
He said, documentation work necessary to accord primitive tribe status to Soliga community is being taken up by the Karnataka State Tribal Research Institute, Mysore. About 90 per cent of the work is completed, he said. A report regarding the status of the community will soon be submitted to the State government, following which, it will be forwarded to the Centre. If Soligas are listed as primitive tribe, they will be eligible to avail more facilities from the government. Currently, only Jenu Kuruba and Koraga tribals have been included under the primitive tribal list, he said.
