The Bangalore City unit of the BJP on Tuesday adopted a resolution seeking the BBMP to rope in the Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) to crack down on illegal collection of parking fee by unauthorised persons in Bangalore.

The meeting attended by Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister Ananth Kumar, party State president Pralhad Joshi, Bangalore Mayor Shanthakumari, among others, felt that the “mafia” collecting parking fees should be dealt with severely.

The party has stated that it would extend full cooperation to the traffic police and the BBMP officials during the crackdown.

The meeting also adopted another resolution that the BBMP should take steps to remove illegal hoardings, flexes, cutout, banners, dotting the Bangalore skyline immediately.

Earlier at the meeting, Shanthakumari said the BBMP officials did not pay heed to the elected representatives. If officials were transferred, they would use their clout to get back to the same position, she said.

The mayor said the BBMP’s financial position was in a shambles and she would try her best for its revival. Garbage disposal in the City had become a big challenge. “The chief minister has given an assurance that garbage would not be dumped in Mandur from December 1.We are scouting for alternative sites,” she said.

Malleswaram MLA C N Ashwathnarayana said the Congress government’s proposal to bifurcate the BBMP was to gain political advantage in its favour. The present government is looking at what it can gain from Bangalore rather than work towards its overall development, he said.
