Around 20,000 people took part in the ‘Spirit of Wipro Run’ 2014 held at the Electronics City on Sunday. In dozens of cities across the world, the response to the annual initiative by Wipro Ltd was impressive.

The run was organised in 110 cities with a whopping total of 63,000 participants. Wipro employees, their families, friends, customers, analysts and suppliers were all part of the run. There were 21-km, 10-km and 5-km runs, besides a separate one for children.

Officially timed 10K and half marathons were conducted in Bangalore, Pune, Chennai and Hyderabad. The theme for the ninth edition of the event was ‘For the Long Run,’ underscoring marathons as a test of endurance, dedication and commitment.

T K Kurien, Chief Executive Officer and Member of the Board, Wipro Limited, said, “Marathons celebrate the triumph of human spirit and instil in us the ability to overcome seemingly unsurmountable challenges. Grit, stamina and determination are key business attributes, all of which are essential for a marathoner.”

A passionate runner, Mark Jordan, Solution Optimisation Centre Manager, Gas Distribution of National Grid, said that running had given him a chance to share the challenge with tens of thousands of runners from different backgrounds, all of whom have a single common goal: to finish.
