Man killed in Navalgund clash

Ane person was killed and three others sustained serious injuries following a group clash between two communities at Hallikeri village in Navalgund taluk of Dharwad district on Thursday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Koreppa Jevoor. The condition of other two persons, Huccheppa Durgad and Budnasaab Sannubhai, is said to be critical and they are being treated at KIMS in Hubli.

Following the incident, the district magistrate has clamped Section 144 in Hallikeri and Annigeri till September 27. Security has been beefed up in the village and Rapid Action Force and CRPF personnel have been deployed to take control on the situation.The quarrel took place between Gudnasaab Sannubhai and Srinivas Giraddi, who is said to be Sriram Sena Hallikeri village President over a personal issue and both entered into heated argument. Both filed cases at the Annigeri police station.

In the meantime, an information that Giraddi has been arrested spread in the village and this led to clash between both the parties. 

One group reportedly attacked the supporters of Giraddi with lethal weapons and Koreppa Jevoor received injuries and was rushed to KIMS. However, he breathed his last at the hospital.

Following the death of Koreppa, violence broke out in the village. The mob set ablaze a Tata Ace vehicle and a two-wheeler parked on the road. On getting information, immediately police rushed to the spot and arrested 25 persons.

Sriram Sene chief Pramod Muthalik has given an Annigeri and Hallikeri bandh call on Friday. However, Deputy Commissioner Rajendra Cholan has warned of taking stringent action against those spoiling peace and tranquillity in the village.
