Shetty, Arpitha set new marks

Bangalore’s Jayapr­akash Shetty and Arpitha M clinched the 400M gold and set new meet records on the third and final day of the Dasara Games at the Chamundi Vihar stadium here on Sunday. 

Jayaprakash bagged gold clocking 48.1 seconds erasing the previous best of 48. 3 seconds while Arpitha romped home in 53.0 seconds surpassing the previous record of 56.4. 

Bangalore Urban’s Vishwambhar Kolekar, with one gold medal to his credit was adjudged the best athlete in the men’s section. 

In the women’s category, Arpitha M with two gold medals took home the best athlete award.  Hosts Mysore helped by 123 points, emerged the overall champions of the meet. Gururaj of SDM Ujjire and Kanchan N of SAI, Bangalore won the best lifter award in the men’s and women’s category respectively. 

Thilak BC of Madikeri and Uttar Pradesh’s Phoolan Pal claimed top honours in the 21km half-marathon. Thilak struck gold in a timing of 1:05:53 while Phoolan emerged victorious in 1:24:04. The final day also witnessed a record in javelin throw.
