Last Updated 29 September 2014, 03:03 IST

Passengers boarding the Shatabdi, Rajdhani and Duronto Express trains will soon get a wake up SMS from the railways with information on their timings and platform numbers, Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda announced here on Sunday.

The railway minister said the service will be extended to other trains at a later stage.
Gowda said the service will begin in the next 15 days and those who have given their mobile numbers will get the wake up messages.

The proposal has been in the pipeline for more than a year, and will finally see light of the day with the Centre for Railway Information Systems now ready to execute the service.

Soon, passengers could also get SMSes pertaining to any delay or cancellation of these trains as well.

An app is also on the cards which will enable passengers to get real time updates about the trains. The app will be available on iOS, Android and Windows-based phones.
