Depressed father kills 4-yr-old twins, hangs himself

A 39-year-old man, said to be depressed about his wife’s suicide three months ago, strangled his four-year-old twins before hanging himself at his home at Rajajinagar 69th Cross on Wednesday.

According to police, Kumareshan, a native of Kolar Gold Fields, strangled his twins Vijay and Vedika with a dupatta before hanging himself from the ceiling fan with a sari.

He had become deeply depressed when his wife, Soni, committed suicide three months ago. The couple was married for 10 years. Besides the twins, they had a nine-year-old daughter, Nisa, who happened to be at a relative’s house in Kurubarahalli when the incident occurred, police said.

The incident emerged when Kumareshan’s mother Saraswathamma returned home after visiting her other son who stays in the same locality. She  knocked on the door but did not get a response. Then she brought her other son who broke the door open only to find all the three dead. Police were then called and the bodies taken to the Victoria Hospital for post-mortem.

Saraswathamma told the police that Kumareshan had been thinking about suicide ever since his wife died. But family members chided him. He started becoming isolated and lonely, and was irregular at work. It appears he had made up his mind to end his life, his mother is said to have told the police.

Police have found a suicide letter note purportedly left behind by the deceased, saying he alone is responsible for what had happened. A case has been registered at the Magadi Road police station.

Bike rider killed

A man died and his friend was injured after a BMTC bus struck their bike near Abhiman Studio on Uttarahalli Main Road on Wednesday. Police identified the deceased as Ajay, from Dodda Aaladamara near Bidadi, and the injured as Muthuraj.
