Addressing at the ‘Kavi Muddana Sahitya Sambhrama’ programme organised by the Kalkura Prathishtana and Dakshina Kannada District Kannada Sahitya Parishat at the SDM Law College Auditorium here, Bhat said that Muddana should be remembered with due respect for his contributions to the Kannada literary world.

He said that society forget to accord due respect to achievers in the modern developing world.

Though there is a road called ‘Kavi Muddana Road’ in Udupi, it has been shortened to K M Road. Similarly, while Mahatma Gandhi Roads were all renamed as M G Roads, the Karnad Sadashiva Rao Road in Mangalore city has been cut short to K S Rao Raod, he lamented.

Muddanna belongs to entire state
Delivering the inaugural address, Corporation Bank General Manager Ramamoorthi said that the reputation of Kavi Muddana was not limited to Dakshina Kannada alone. But instead, he was a poet, who belonged to the entire state, he added.

Ramamoorthi said that human values will increase in the society only if people start showing more interest towards literature.

He assured that the Corporation Bank will always be in the forefront to encourage art and literature. Litterateur Nithyananda Karantha spoke on the contributions of Muddana to the Kannada literary world.  Veteran Yakshagana artiste Yajamana Shridhara Hande was felicitated on the occasion. Former State Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Harikrishna Punarooru presided.

SDM College of Business Management K Devaraj, Kalkura Prathishtana president S Pradeep Kumar Kalkura and programme co-ordinator H Janardhana Hande were present on the occasion. ‘Kumaravijaya’, a Yakshagana Talamaddale scripted by Muddana and ‘Sudhanva Kalaga’ a Yakshagana Bayalata, were staged on the occasion.
