JOIN USVijaya alias Viji (28) of Chikka Begur, and Naga (26), along with their three other accomplices on two bikes, first ambushed a cement-laden lorry near Kudlugate around
12.30 am.
They thrashed the driver Venugopal and cleaner Mahendra up and snatched Rs 1,100 from the former.
At this juncture, Ramesh, a local BJP leader who was returning home on a scooter, stopped and intervened. Angered by his ‘audacity’, they turned their heat on him, dragged him by the collar and snatched Rs 5,000 cash, a cell phone and his scooter.
The miscreants’ trail, however, did not stop there. They attacked another lorry.
Passersby raise alarm
But to their disbelief, passersby came to the driver’s rescue after he raised an alarm. They beat them up and nabbed two of them while three others succeeded in fleeing.
According to HSR Layout police, Vijaya was involved in two cases each of murder and attempt to dacoity.
Naga, on the other hand, has been accused in the murder of Acchukattu Manju in Siddharth Colony, Madivala some time ago. A case has been registered and the police are on the look-out for the three other accused.
