An attractive rally was taken out from Kote Anjaneya Swamy temple in the city, to mark Valmiki jayanti celebrations, on Wednesday. Among the prominent highlights of the rally was Revenue Minister V Sreenivas Prasad, MLAs M K Somashekar and G T Deve Gowda dancing to the tunes of musical troupes.

The rally, which included artists from various parts of Mysore taluk, concluded near Kala Mandir, where a programme was held to mark the Jayanthi.

Speaking at the programme, Prasad said that Valmiki Bhavans have to be constructed at all taluks and hoblis of the State, as centres to deliberate on the ideals of the First Poet. He said that the Valmiki  Bhavan under construction in Mysore, will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, soon.

Peace and harmony

He said that the jayanti celebrations should not be restricted to one particular community, as his teachings were relevant to all sections of society. People should work towards imbibing the ideals of Valmiki, to ensure peace and harmony, he added.

He said discrimination based on caste, creed and other factors have rooted deeply among the minds of the people. This mindset has resulted in several conflicts, that has disturbed the unity among the various sections.

Even though Valmiki was born in a ‘lower caste’, his excellence over language made him script one of the most famous works in ancient literature.

Similarly, jayanti celebrations were held in Mandya, Chamarajanagar and Hassan districts.
