Rain plays spoilsport on second day

Rain held sway over proceedings as both matches in the South Zone under-16 tournament for the Vijay Merchant Trophy were reduced to curtailed affairs here on Saturday.

Karnataka, overnight 222/4, could play no more than 20 overs after the second and penultimate day of their match against Andhra began at 2.30 pm. During this period the hosts lost three wickets while adding 38 runs to finish the day at 260/7 when bad light and rain combined to halt the match at around 4.00 pm at the JSS-SJCA ground.

At the SDNR Wadiyar ground, Tamil Nadu had their noses slightly in front after dismissing Hyderabad, overnight 97/4, for a modest 146 in 93.4 overs. Jaganath Srinivas caused the maximum damage with figures of 5/37 while TD Lokesh Raj claimed 3/28. 

Brief scores: At Mysore: Karnataka (O/n: 222/4): 260/7 in 71.6 overs (Gaotham Sagar 83; Bharadwaj 3-44) vs Andhra.

Hyderabad (O/n: 97/4): 146 all out in 93.4 overs (A Varun Goud 44, N Suryateja 39; TD Lokesh Raj 3-28, RS Jaganath Sinivas 5-37, S Ajith Ram 2-17) vs Tamil Nadu: 41/2 in 23 overs).

At Mandya: Kerala: 139  and 33/1 in 21 overs vs Goa: 248 all out in 96.1 overs (Alam Khan 40, Tunish Sawkar 110; Arvind Rajesh 2-34, Afrad Reshab 3-46, Akhil Scaria 3-46, Ajith Jacob 2-45).
