Addressing a press meet here, Horata Samithi President Harikrishna Punaroor said the people of the region have been demanding taluk status to Mulky. However, now the government is planning to create new Mulky hobli by including it in Paduva Moodabidri taluk. Mulky hobli has 32 villages.

He said “Mulky is one important centre in Coastal district. Once it had port, court, excise, customs, PWD offices. However, now it has been withdrawn from Mulky. A court is situated in Karkala.

However, Moodabidiri which is 12 kms from Karkala will likely to a court and taluk status soon.”

“The people of Mulky have been demanding taluk status for the last 30 years. However, all the political parties have been neglecting Mulky. Sri Vasudeva Rao, Hundekar and Gaddi Gowdar committees of taluk reorganisation had approved the proposal for the creation of Mulky taluk and had submitted a report to the government. However, the government has sidelined all the proposals and has done injustice to the people of Mulky.”
By including Mulky hobli in Moodbidri taluk, the people of Mulky have to go to Moodabidri taluk for any work instead of Mangalore. The decision to create Moodabidri taluk is unscientific, he added.
