A 40-year-old property dealer was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the basement of an under-construction building in south-east Delhi’s Jamia Nagar on Sunday, police said.

Saleem Ahmad lived with family in East Zakir Nagar and used to assist his father in their property dealing business.

Police said he was last seen by his family members on Saturday evening.

“Saleem’s body was recovered with head injuries in an under-construction building near his house on Sunday morning,” said a police officer.

Saleem’s family members had launched a search in the neighbourhood after he did not return home on Saturday.

They were worried as his mobile phone was also switched off.

On Sunday morning, police were informed after some labourers came to the building for work and saw Saleem’s body.

Sealed building

Police said the building was sealed by the municipal corporation some months ago due to which the owner had carried out some demolition and was making a fresh construction.
A case of murder has been filed with Jamia Nagar police station.

“Saleem’s body was handed over to family after a post-mortem at AIIMS. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter,” the officer added.

During questioning of family members and relatives, police have been told that Saleem was having an extramarital affair, which was objected by his wife.

Sources said after an initial probe, it is suspected that he may have been killed by someone known to his wife.

It is suspected that he was lured to the building by a woman as his shirt was not recovered from the spot.

No arrest yet

“We have not detained his wife and are yet to make any arrest,” the officer said.
Currently, police are analysing the call data records of Saleem and his wife’s mobile phones.

Police have also not ruled out the possibility of Saleem being attacked over property dispute in the area.
