Few options for accused in Russian rape case

With his passport in police custody, the accused has little option but to surrender eventually, officials say.

Fernandes’ bail was cancelled by the High Court on December 15 and a warrant of arrest  issued against him by the Margao judicial magistrate.
Meanwhile, police officials investigating a complaint by two Russian tourists against a taxi driver, said the case seemed more like a dispute over the cab fare.
Pramod Shirodkar was arrested on Saturday after the two women lodged a complaint with the police alleging he tried to molest and attack them after a Christmas night party.

The women said they jumped out of the car and hid in the bushes near Anjuna for five hours till daylight.
Shirodkar who was moonlighting as a taxi driver was dropping the women to their hotel from a night spot. He denies the charges and said he got into an altercation with the tourists over the fare for the ride.
