Love stricken youth kills girlfriend's uncle, arrested later

A 23-year-old man has been arrested for killing his girlfriend’s uncle in north-east Delhi’s Bhajanpura. The girl’s family was allegedly not letting the accused to meet her and had also fixed her marriage, police said on Tuesday.

Accused Mohammad Amaan, who hails from Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur district, was arrested after a man named Owais Khan was killed on October 20. A case was registered over his sister’s statement.

On October 20, a call was made to the police control room around 2.15 am reporting firing at Vijay Park. On the spot, Fatima told police that Amaan came to her house around 12.30 am and insisted on meeting her daughter Shanna. But she did not open the main door of the house and informed her brother Owais.

Soon, Owais came there along with his friend Naved and tried to have a conversation with Amaan. “Amaan, however, was angry and claimed that he will not spare anyone who would come between him and his girlfriend Shanna,” said R A Sanjeev, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East).

Without any warning, Amaan then opened fire and injured Owais. Naved tried to save Owais, but Amaan bit him several times on his arms. Amaan then left the spot while opening fire in the air and took Owais with him.

Meanwhile, Shanna received a call from Amaan in which he claimed that he had taken Owais with him and asked Shanna to meet him. Amaan also threatened to kill Shanna and her uncle. Police were later informed that Owais had been declared brought dead at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.

During inquiry, Fatima and her son Gazanfar told police that Shanna was in a relationship with Amaan for the last five years.A team led by SHO Bhajanpura Inspector Subhash Chand was constituted to trace Amaan. Some policemen were also stationed at Shahjahanpur to pressurise Amaan’s relatives.

On Monday, information was received the Amaan would come near Khajuri Chowk. “On this information, the team arrested Amaan with a country-made pistol and two cartridges,” Sanjeev added.
